Participate in The Longevity Project

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition? Home inspections traditionally have only taken place when a buyer had made an offer on a property. This is a great idea, but I am encouraging people to get an impartial home inspection prior to listing their property for sale. By doing so, the seller can identify possible red flags and repair them. This can save time, thousands of dollars in negotiations and reduce the possibility that a buyer may not purchase a home if their own inspection uncovers the problem(s).

What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? What can customers expect from you? As a member of the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors, I look for safety-related items first. With most accidents happening in the home I take this responsibility very seriously. Also, the selling and buying process is stressful and exciting, so I try to get inspections scheduled within 48 hours of the time they are ordered. Customers appreciate being able to move the process along as quickly as possible. Property inspections for potential home buyers have become almost the norm, and rightfully so. The most important and expensive purchase of our lives should also come with the peace of mind that comes with a thorough inspection.

Tell us a little about your background and experience: I had vacationed in the valley for about 10 years and always wanted to move here. After I got married and brought my wife here for the first time a three- to five-year plan became three to five-month plan. I have bought, remodeled and sold residential and commercial real estate for the past 15 years. Inspections are a natural outgrowth of that experience and the National Association of Home Inspectors has excellent training and certifications.

What is the most humorous thing that has happened at your business since you opened? I was getting ready to inspect an attic and as I opened the access panel and shined my flashlight into the dark space I was met face-to-face with a badger. He was stuffed, thankfully, and I learned how to fall off a ladder gracefully.
