Business name: Kimberly’s Ceramic Studio

Date opened: I bought the business May 18.

Owner: Kimberly Taketa

Contact info: 233 Broadway in Eagle. We’re open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., although special arrangements can be made for other days and times. For more information, call 970-328-7687.

What goods or services do you provide? Children and adults can come in and choose a piece of bisque, creatively paint it and I will fire it in the kiln. During the firing process the glaze turns to glass so the finished product is very shiny and beautiful.

We welcome birthday parties, ladies night, work gatherings and any other special occasion that you would like to create one-of-a-kind memories. Give a call and reserve a date and time for your next gathering of friends or other special occassion.

Parties of fewer than six people are welcome to just come on in and paint.

I also have “Pottery to Go.” I bring the bisque, paint brushes and glazes to you. This is great for parties at home, baby-sitters and children’s and adult programs. Call for more details.

What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition? It is easy to run into a store and buy a gift for someone. Here you are able to create a unique gift. This will have much more meaning and everytime you or the person receiving the gift sees it you will instantly smile. It is much more fun and relaxing than just running into a store a grabbing something off the shelf.

What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? What can your customers expect from you? I feel that everyone needs something that adds smiles to their lives. Kimberly’s Ceramic Studio has a very welcoming feel to it and even those people that say they don’t have a creative bone in their body usually impress themselves. I have idea books, stensils, samples throughout the store and I can also lend a helpful idea if needed.

If you find yourself wondering what to do, come on down, say hello and paint something fun.

Tell us a little about your background, education and experience: Owning a business is a whole new world for me. I have always been creative and love artysy fartsy stuff but have never had the opportunity to really run with it. I was an assistant to orthopedic surgeons in California for about 10 years then moved out here, did the restaurant/retail thing and then a title business for the past three years.

I am looking forward to seeing all the smiles on the customers faces as they paint and even more when they have that very glowing smile when they see the fired product.
