Black deputies in Denver allege racial taunting,
DENVER, Colorado ” A group of black Denver sheriff’s deputies are alleging they are targets of racial taunting and are being unfairly disciplined at work.
The 13 black deputies say in a complaint against the City of Denver and the sheriff’s department that there is a “culture of racism” at work.
The complaint was filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Manager of Safety Al LaCabe and a sheriff’s department spokesman told the Rocky Mountain News on Thursday that they were unaware of the complaint.
The black deputies allege in their complaint that they’re subjected to stricter disciplinary punishments than white deputies.
One deputy claims white deputies have in the past 12 years dubbed January “Hug a Brotha Month” because of Martin Luther King Day.
