VAIL, Colorado – The Vail Valley Foundation will host the 13th annual Black Diamond Ball on Dec. 2. The gala event is scheduled to get under way at 6 p.m. at the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa in Avon. The Foundation’s largest fundraiser, the 2010 Black Diamond Ball raised more than $500,000 to aid the nonprofit organization’s mission of enhancing the spirit of the Vail Valley for both residents and guests through athletics, education and the arts. The Black Diamond Ball paints a festive backdrop for the Birds of Prey World Cup races in Beaver Creek.”The Black Diamond Ball is a great way to kick off the season,” said Vail Valley Foundation President Ceil Folz, “and it’s the perfect complement to the World Cup races. While it most certainly benefits tremendous programs and projects valleywide, it really is ‘the most fun you can have in black tie.'”Along with the new location, the 2011 Black Diamond Ball will feature a new look, as the event will be held outdoors under an enclosed tent on the pool deck. For the first time ever, the Westin pool will be covered with clear stage flooring to allow guests to dance the night away with the colorfully lit pool below their feet. In addition, famed Chef Richard Sandoval will prepare a one-of-a-kind menu for the evening. Owner of more than 30 restaurants around the world, including his newest property Cima (currently called Avondale) in the Westin Riverfront, Sandoval is excited to be a part of the 2011 event.”The Black Diamond Ball is a thrilling opportunity to host the Vail community and say thank you for the warm welcome I received with the opening of Cima,” Sandoval said. “We look forward to this evening and serving the entire Vail Valley in 2012.”Another new addition to the gala event is the “Diamond Draw,” a twist on the traditional silent auction. Guests may buy chances ($20 to $50) at winning items such as a four-night vacation to Ixtapa, Mexico, a Denver sports package (that includes tickets to Nuggets, Avalanche and Mammoth games) or a trip to Fashion Week in New York City. “Winners” are chosen for each prize at the conclusion of the evening, and all proceeds benefit the programs of the Vail Valley Foundation.Tickets to the Black Diamond Ball on Dec. 2 are $300 and available now. Table sponsorships are also available. Contact the Vail Valley Foundation at 970-777-2015 or visit http://www.vvf.org to learn more.
