Blackalicious comes to Avon
Vail, CO Colorado
Bay area hip-hop crew Blackalicious, featuring Lateef the Truthspeaker and Chief Xcel, returns to the Vail Valley tonight. Frontman Gift of Gab will be absent for medical reasons, but more than capably filling the emcee role will be Lateef the Truthspeaker, who has had an incredible career in his own right in and around the Blackalicious family (including side projects with Chief Xcel and a group called Latyrx with Lyrics Born).
Gift of Gab has been sick for some time, and Lateef has been touring as the third member of the group since the fall, sharing rhymes and taking over when Gab needs to catch his breath. Nobody is better suited to fill Gab’s shoes, and fans of Blackalicious will not be disappointed.
Expect all of the hits, and if you’ve never caught Blackalicious, prepare for some of hip-hop’s smoothest beats and most positive rhymes.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have Blackalicious back in Vail – they’re one of our favorite groups ever,” promoter Crawford Byers said. “It’s unfortunate the Gift of Gab won’t be there, but we were prepared for this, as he has been dealing with health issues. Lateef is one of the Bay Area’s best emcees and a crucial part of the Blackalicious family. We’re ecstatic the show will go on.”
Denver’s party rap crew Cobraconda opens the show. Tickets are $20.
