Blood screenings offered early at 9Health Fair

Daily Staff Report

EAGLE COUNTY Saturday, April 1 is the day to get your blood drawn early by the 9Health Fair volunteers. This pre draw is being offered as a precursor to the larger 9Health Fair to be held on April 22. The 31 component blood screen provides a cardiac risk profile and tests for diabetes, kidney function, liver function, thyroid disease and other health conditions. A 12-hour fast provides the best results. Participants should continue to take their medications and drink plenty of water while fasting and diabetics should not fast. A colon cancer screening kit will also be available. Test results will be mailed to participants within 6 weeks. The Eagle Lions Club is in its 26 th year of sponsoring the 9Health Fair. Eagle County Health & Human Services and Eagle Valley Medical Center are co-sponsoring the event. Both the initial blood draw and the larger health fair will be held at Eagle Valley Middle School, 747 East Third Street in Eagle. Participants must be at least 18 years of age, and are asked to wear short sleeves. Ortiz encourages participants from the pre draw to come back to the larger health fair to visit other valuable educational and screening stations, and have the opportunity to speak with a health professional. Both events will run from 8:00 am to 11:30 am. For more information, call Joy Ortiz at (970) 524-1122 or (970) 471-1911. Vail Colorado
