VAIL, Colorado ” The down-valley summer event of the season returns tonight with the kickoff of the American National Bank ShowDown Town free concert series in Eagle Town Park. The evening features a free concert with Colorado bluegrass group The Blue Canyon boys at 6:30 p.m., as well as children’s activities, food and beverage for sale in the park. The event is a popular picnicking location.

The Blue Canyon Boys have been entertaining audiences with their unique style of bluegrass in the Colorado area for more than four years. This high energy, bluegrass powerhouse consists of Gary Dark on mandolin, Jason Hicks on guitar, Drew Garrett on bass and Jeff Scroggins on banjo.

Blending brother-duet-style vocals and hard-driving instrumental proficiency, the band has quickly become a mainstay of the front-range bluegrass scene.

The series continues every Thursday night through July 24, with the live music kicking off each evening at 6:30 p.m. Additional performing bands include longtime Valley favorites Airborn, the southern rock of Devon Allman’s Honeytribe, the rollicking swing of Big Daddy Lee and the Kingbees and the Memphis-inspired blues of LipBone Redding.

For the 2008 season of ShowDown Town, the Vail Valley Foundation, which presents the series, has committed to increasing the number and quality of children’s activities. Throughout the six weeks of shows, activities will include jugglers, a “little buckaroos” western rodeo night, stilt walkers and a petting zoo. Picnics, friendly dogs and coolers are allowed.
