Blues Traveler will kick off free concerts
ASPEN Long-running jam band Blues Traveler will play a free show at the base of Aspen Mountain on Dec. 8 in conjunction with three days of World Cup racing on the slopes.The concert kicks off the seasons Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series, which has brought the likes of the Gin Blossoms, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, The Samples, The English Beat and the Dave Mason Band to town for free, downtown concerts in years past.Blues Traveler is no stranger to Aspen the band played a sold-out show at Belly Up Aspen in early July (tickets to that one were $45). Frontman John Popper brought his side band, the John Popper Project, to the Belly Up last March.The band formed two decades ago in New Jersey, but hit mainstream success with their fourth studio album, 1994s Four, which produced the Grammy-winning single Run-around as well as the catchy Hook. The bands newest album, Cover Yourself, an acoustic best of collection, is due for release Oct. 30.Their performance comes on day two of womens World Cup racing on Aspen Mountain. The first womens downhill in Aspen since 1988 is scheduled on Friday, Dec. 7, followed by the super G on Saturday, Dec. 8 and slalom competition on Sunday, Dec. 9.The Saturday night concert will be the first of five outdoor performances in Aspen and Snowmass this winter as part of the concert series, which brings shows during key events and peak weekends during the ski season.
