Body found floating in Rifle Creek not ID’d
Rifle, CO Colorado
RIFLE, Colorado ” A fisherman called police after discovering a body floating in Rifle Creek Tuesday morning.
According to Rifle Police Lt. J.R. Boulton, police were contacted about 9 a.m. Tuesday and responded to the scene near where the creek intersects Centennial Parkway, and confirmed that a male was found dead in the creek.
Boulton said that they called in the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue to retrieve the body. No cause of death has been determined at this time. Police are awaiting an autopsy report before releasing further information.
The body was turned over to the Garfield County Coroner’s Office for identification and to determine the time, cause and manner of death. At this time it is unknown if foul play was a contributing factor.
The coroner’s office said that they expect to have the report complete later this week.
Boulton said that in cases like this it’s hard to determine just how long the body has been there.
“The water changes things,” he said.
