Bon Apptit culinary fest Friday events
BEAVER CREEK, Colorado The weather forecast calls for more snow; the culinary forecast calls for another day of international flair and flavor in Beaver Creek with the Bon Apptit Culinary & Wine Focus at Beaver Creek Resort. Guests can start off the day with an invigorating snowshoe tour, followed by lunch at Grouse Mountain Grill with guest chef Kerry Simon. The sold-out Brazilian Cocktail seminar features news twists on classic South American cocktails. To top off the day, the MasterChef challenge transforms the Vilar Center into a version of kitchen stadium, where three rounds of culinary combat will dazzle and delight spectators. Starting at 10 a.m., participants in the Subaru Snowshoe excursion will explore the most picturesque spots on Beaver Creek Mountain with Beaver Creeks expert guides. Afterward working up an appetite, a three-course luncheon will be served at Grouse Mountain Grill with Chef Kerry Simon. Dubbed the Rock N Roll Chef by Rolling Stone Magazine, Simon is known for his signature comfort food simple American fare prepared with the intuition of a master chef. He is the chef/owner of Simon LA (Los Angeles), Impala (San Francisco), Simon at Palms Place and CatHouse at the Luxor Hotel & Casino (Las Vegas).The Brazilian Cocktail Seminar takes place at 3:30 p.m. at the Golden Eagle Inn. This sold-out event will feature mixologists leading an educational sampling of classic Brazilian cocktail recipes along with paired tastings from the Golden Eagle Inns Chef Marshall Blanchard. The day ends with the MasterChef Challenge at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek. At 6 p.m., the doors open with specially prepared bites from chefs Jonathan Lindenauer (Bon Appetits Chef De Cuisine), Kerry Simon (CatHouse, Las Vegas), Dolli Irgoyen (Dolli, Buenos Aires) and Germn Martitegui (Casa Cruz, Buenos Aires). Guests will be able to sample the foods of Argentina prior to and between rounds of the show, continuing the international flair that weaves through the festival.The competition begins at 6:30 p.m. At this spirited Iron-Chef-style competition, guests watch as chefs are given a surprise ingredient and 20 minutes to create winning dishes. Bon Appetit Executive Chef Cat Cora serves as emcee for the competition while Barbara Fairchild, actor and vintner Kyle MacLachlan and restaurateur Donatella Arpaia will judge each rounds creations.Round one features Marc Murphy (Landmarc, New York) and Beanos Executive Chef Steven Topple versus Richard Sandoval (Modern Mexican Restaurants) and Golden Eagle Inns Marshall Blanchard. Round Two will pair off Joey Campanaro (Little Owl, New York) and Mirabelles Daniel Joly versus Richard Chamberlain (Chamberlains Steak and Chop House, Dallas) and Beaver Creek Chophouses Jay McCarthy.
