MINTURN, Colorado ” The second annual Book Scootin’ Boogie ” a fun, Western-themed evening ” is set for Friday night at the Cowboy Bar in Minturn.

The evening will include food, drinks, live music and a live auction with donated items like accommodations in New York, Denver and Vail; wine; and dinners, as well as many door prizes donated by The Bookworm of Edwards and other local businesses.

The event promotes Room to Read, a non-profit that focuses on educating girls in the developing world by giving annual scholarships, building schools and libraries and funding computer rooms and language labs and most importantly, implementing a local language publishing program in developing countries.

To date, Room to Read has created over 5,000 schools and libraries for impoverished children in the developing world. Room to Read was founded by John Wood in 1998, and was recently recognized by the Clinton Global Imitative. Wood was on the Oprah Winfrey show this past spring and has won many awards including Time Magazine’s coveted ‘Asian Heroes’ award; he was the only non-Asian to win.

Cost for the event is $25, which includes food, drinks and live music. Since the event is 100 percent underwritten, 100 percent of the money raised will go to Room to Read.
