Booze may be factor in fatal Basalt crash

BASALT – Not wearing a seatbelt and possibly intoxicated, a man died when he drove off the side of the road, rolled down a steep embankment and was thrown from the vehicle April 8, said Cpl. Dennis Gibbons with the Colorado State Patrol.Norbert Anthes, 64, of Basalt was driving north in his 2004 GMC 3500 truck on Cedar Drive in Basalt when he wrecked and was killed instantly, Gibbons said. The Colorado State Patrol arrived on the scene at 7:21 a.m. after the accident was reported by another driver. Cedar Drive was closed for about five hours while the truck was towed away.
