BOULDER, Colorado – Residents in parts of Boulder are being told to prepare to evacuate in case a fire burning in the foothills spreads into the city.

The city issued a warning Thursday afternoon for people who live west of Broadway, the main north-south road on the west side of town. They’re being urged to clear things like lawn furniture and propane tanks and to mow tall grass and move extra brush on the west side of their homes. Items that could fuel the fire should be put on the east side of buildings.

The city is also mowing grass in open spaces to cut down on potential fuel.

Wind gusts are expected to reach 60 mph Thursday night, possibly fanning a wildfire that has destroyed at least 169 homes in the foothills west of the city.
