Bowling: Start from the beginning

AnDee Heath

I started bowling when I was a little more than two years old.

There was a Pro-Am Bowling Tournament, in Fresno, California and Mama took me along for moral support. Not only was Mama a good bowler but she had a good sense of humor.

It didn’t take long before her and “Pro” partner, Dick, were joking and laughing together. I liked him, too! He was real handsome and had dimples.

Mama and her partner didn’t make the finals but she did make a new friend.

He took an interest in me and asked “Do you want to be a good bowler like your Mom?”

Goo-goo eyed, I quickly shook my head yes! He got a bowling ball from the shelf and told me “To be good you always have to follow through, like this and proceeded to roll the ball down the lane. He exaggerated the ‘follow through’ just for me.

It wasn’t until I was 17 years old that I saw “Dick” again and recognized him right off. His full name is Dick Weber and anyone that loves bowling, like I do, knows that name. Mr. Weber, Thank You!

I’ve never forgotten your instruction and I think I turned out to be a pretty good bowler, thanks to your tip.
