Boy falls into ravine on ATV near Eagle, Colorado, police say

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” A 10-year-old boy was four-wheeling with his family south of Eagle, Colorado, when he fell 50 to 70 feet down a 75-degree ravine wall Sunday afternoon, according to Shannon Cordingly, spokeswoman for the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.
Rescuers responded to a 911 call from the Firebox area of Hardscrabble Mountain, six to eight miles up Hardscrabble Mountain Road, at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, Cordingly said. They found the boy conscious with a possible broken femur, she said.
Rescuers said that the boy’s full face helmet likely prevented more serious injuries, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.
A helicopter rescue team airlifted the boy from the site to a hospital in Garfield County about 2 1/2 hours after the 911 call, the statement said.
