VAIL -Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival presents two complimentary concerts Tuesday, as part of its Free & Easy Series. Artists-in-residence Cantus, an all-male vocal ensemble, performs at 11 a.m. at Vail Interfaith Chapel and again at 6 p.m. at the Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center. Both concerts are complimentary and tickets are not required. Seating is on a first come, first-serve basis”We are so fortunate to have the amazing vocal group, Cantus coming to Vail,” said Jacqueline Taylor, Bravo’s artistic administrator. “Everyone needs to hear what these nine incredible singers can do with an amazing variety of music.”Lauded as a premiere men’s vocal ensemble in the United States, Cantus is committed to inspiring audiences with music performed at the highest level. Rehearsing and performing without a conductor or music director, the members of Cantus are known for adventurous programming spanning many periods and genres, including works commissioned specifically for the group.Bravo programmed each of these concerts differently and guests are encouraged to attend both performances to hear the versatility of Cantus, said Taylor. The 10 a.m. concert at the Vail Interfaith Chapel features American sacred music from Cantus’ 2010 recording That Eternal Day. Songs include “There’s a Meetin’ Here Tonight,” “What Wondrous Love,” “What Wonderful Gifts,” “Holy Manna,” “Heal the World,” and more. The 6 p.m. concert at the Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center features masterworks for men’s voices spanning from the 13th-20th centuries. The program begins with works from the early 13th century featuring Protin (one of the first international composers of polyphonic music), and concludes with music from Bono, John Lennon and Paul McCartney. This is the first time Bravo will present a concert at the Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center. “We are proud to open our doors and share a beautiful space to enjoy music and friends at the Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center,” Jill Chalfant, executive director at the Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center. “We hope people from all parts of the valley will come to our central location to see our building and experience great music.”The Free & Easy series is presented by Dr. Malik and Seeme Hasan, who developed the program with the Bravo! Music Festival 10 years ago. The series provides complimentary music throughout Eagle County. Questions are encouraged by concert-goers after the performances and musicians often discuss the music and instruments throughout the concert. The Hasan Family Foundation started this series as a way to expand the musical offerings of the Bravo Music Festival to the entire community. “We as a family are very proud to include the families of the Valley in an activity that includes the whole family and provides education in a fun way. Making it free for all gives the motivation to the parents and grandparents to utilize an event that is fun and educational both at the same time,” said Seeme Hasan. “It was very important to us that we take the music to the people, and especially our working families, and make it easy for them to attend and be a part of a major event of the valley.” The Free & Easy programs are shorter than the orchestral concerts, just one hour, which the Hasan family believes is a better time frame for children’s attention spans. The relaxed atmosphere makes it a comfortable setting for children to hear music as well.”Teenagers and kids are encouraged to come to the free concerts,” said Hasan. “Let’s broaden the horizons of the children. It’s a rich treat that is being brought to their back yards.”There will be a Free & Easy program July 18 in Gypsum, July 23 in Cordillera and July 30 in Eagle. All of these programs will feature Bravo’s other artists-in-residence, the Jasper String Quartet. For more information call 877-812-5700 or http://www.vailmusic.org.
