Bravo! sending young musicians to camp

Daily Staff Writer

VAIL – Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival has awarded music camp scholarships to eight local students. These scholarships are designed to assist musically talented students in need of financial aid to further their studies in the field of music. Scholarship recipients receive up to $500 for tuition at a music camp of their choice. Eagle County students Chris Ring, alto saxophone; Bjorn Bauer, violin; Madeleine Chalfant, cello; Kristopher Thornton, piano and trumpet; Kory Riskey, violin; Marybeth Riskey, piano; and Faith Krause, piano and violin; will continue their instrumental studies at various music camps this summer. Lake County’s Molly Galey will also be spending part of her summer studying piano. To qualify for this scholarship, students between grades 4-12 must show an interest in furthering their musical study in instrumental performance, composing, conducting or music therapy. Students are required to complete an application, turn in one letter of recommendation and grade transcripts, and write an essay. “Awarding the scholarships is not an easy decision. There are some incredibly talented students in Eagle and Lake counties and we try to send as many students as we can. We are proud to be able to support so many students this summer,” said Bravo! Outreach Director Liz Campbell.Recipients provide a post-camp essay within two weeks of attending summer camp to share their experience. The Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival is committed to providing students with the opportunity to develop and excel in their discipline of music and allowing them to strive towards a professional career in music. In the summer of 2005, Bravo! brings to the Vail Valley the Rochester Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony, New York Philharmonic and more than 40 internationally acclaimed soloists and chamber musicians.
