Bravo! Vail announces its 27th season lineup, new performers

VAIL — Bravo! Vail announced its 27th season today, taking place from June 27-Aug. 2. Internationally acclaimed soloists will join the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. World-renowned chamber musicians join artistic director Anne-Marie McDermott for the Chamber Music Series and Silver Oak & Twomey Series.

Featured artists this summer include violinists Joshua Bell (July 5) and Midori (July 18), and pianist Yefim Bronfman (July 19), headlining a roster of the classical music world’s most respected performers, many of whom are making their first appearances at Bravo! Vail.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra opens the season on June 27, with jazz guitar great John Pizzarelli in music by Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin, Harold Arlen and Duke Ellington. Music director Jaap van Zweden returns June 28 to lead Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9,” choral. On June 29, van Zweden offers Ravel’s most famous work, “Bolero.”



Hollywood film classics from great Westerns to James Bond films and favorites by John Williams are presented on July 2 before the residency ends with the Patriotic Concert on July 4.

The Philadelphia Orchestra opens on July 5 with superstar violinist Joshua Bell. Conductor Donald Runnicles debuts leading the Philadelphians in programs July 6 and 7. Artistic Director Anne-Marie McDermott plays Mozart on July 7.

Bravo! Vail presents its first-ever screening of a film with live orchestra accompaniment with Walt Disney’s cinematic masterpiece, “Fantasia” – here by The Philadelphia Orchestra. Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin returns on July 11and 12 with Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 3,” “Eroica” and the sensational French pianist Helene Grimaud.

The New York Philharmonic opens July 18 with music director Alan Gilbert and leading violinist Midori playing Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto.” On July 19, pianist Yefim Bronfman performs two of Beethoven’s most popular works — his concertos numbers 1 and 5.

On July 20, the New York Philharmonic offers works by Strauss, Rouse and Tchaikovsky. Bramwell Tovey returns on July 23, in an all-American program of works by Copland, Gershwin and Grofe. On July 24, the Philharmonic offers music by Frank Loesser, including hits from “Guys and Dolls” and “The Most Happy Fella.”

Closing the Philharmonic’s residency on July 25 is Russian Classics, featuring Joyce Yang in Rachmaninoff’s “Piano Concerto No. 1.”

Bravo! Vail’s Chamber Music Series is scheduled for successive Tuesday nights, mostly at the Donovan Pavilion. Gershwin and Joplin: Chamber Jazz features members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra members perform Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,” and a concert of Baroque concertos and more closes the season on Aug 2.

The Silver Oak & Twomey Series continues at the Donovan Pavilion in three programs on July 29, 30 and 31. Relaxed, elegant, intimate, and surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors, the evenings feature cabaret-style seating, with great wines included. Members of The Philadelphia Orchestra debut at the annual Free Family Concert on July 10 at 10 a.m. with Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” featuring actors.

The Linda & Mitch Hart Soiree Series features four private performances in four unique and spectacular homes throughout the Vail Valley. Each evening includes cocktails, a concert and a gourmet dinner served by area premier chefs.

Exciting new collaborations include the Bravo! Vail After Dark series, designed to serve younger patrons and those interested in engaging with classical music in a more relaxed format. Performances are on July 19 at the Vail Ale House and on July 26 at the Crazy Mountain Brewing Company in Edwards.

Bravo! Vail’s first-ever collaboration with Walking Mountains Science Center in Avon is scheduled for July 16th at 6 p.m. Third Coast Percussion takes part in The Science Behind Series, joining educators to discuss sound and acoustical properties in a fun and engaging manner. Two new chamber music concerts will be in Avon’s Nottingham Park on July 10 and 17 and are scheduled for 6 p.m.

Bravo! Vail also offers 25 different free, hour-long orchestral, chamber music and community engagement concerts for people of all ages in venues throughout the Vail Valley.

Orchestral concerts featuring the Dallas, Philadelphia and New York orchestras start at $28 for both lawn and “Saver” pavilion seats. Lawn tickets for children 12 and under are $5. Tickets for the Chamber Music Series start at $29 and Silver Oak & Twomey Series start at $50. Gala tickets start at $300. Tickets for The Linda & Mitch Hart Soiree Series are $200 and can be purchased only by phone.

Three-concert subscription packages are available either by favorite orchestra or by night of week. Packages start at $84 for Pavilion seating.
