Bravo! Vail visits Vail library on Tuesday

Daily staff report

Visit the Vail Public Library on Tuesday for an interactive music presentation as part of the 2013 Summer Reading Program. The Little Listeners at the Library program will feature two violinists from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra: Daphne Volle and Bruce Wittrig.

They will be performing music while also answering questions in a fun and informative way. The Vail Library is honored to collaborate with Bravo! Vail each summer to host age appropriate and subtly educational Bravo! shows for young patrons.

“Dig into Reading,” the 2013 Summer Reading Program theme, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. every Tuesday afternoon (with entertainers beginning at 2 p.m.) through Aug. 6. Elementary students entering first through fifth grades, locals and visitors alike, are encouraged to join this free reading program. Weekly events include a read aloud story, art activities, games and then a special presenter.

Local teen and adult volunteers team up with the library’s children’s team to provide an enriching program. The goal is to keep students reading with fun activities and even a prize store to provide reward-based incentives.

Research shows that participation in a summer reading program prepares students for a successful return to school in the fall. Without it, there is often a measurable loss in reader fluency over the summer months.

It is fortunate in Colorado that the Lt. Governor’s office is actively involved in children’s literacy and supports events and initiatives to that end.

The event is free and registration is available online and at the event. Parents are always welcome. For more information visit, or call 970-479-2187.
