BRECKENRIDGE ” A 28-year-old helicopter pilot who returned from Iraq was killed Saturday night after being hit by a Breckenridge Trolley Bus, according to Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson.

According to the Coroner, Lynn Scutellaro of Evergreen was pinned under the trolley bus when she arrived on scene. A 911 call was made at 10:55 p.m., and according to nieghbors, authorities quickly cordoned off the scene with a red tarp and eventually closed Main Street into early Sunday morning. The part of the sidewalk near where she was hit was under construction, forcing pedestrians to cross or step into the street.

The cause of death is due to blunt force trauma and toxicology results are expected by the end of the week, Richardson added.

Scuttelaro, a captain in the Colorado Army National Guard 89th Troop Command who lives in Evergreen, was staying in her parents’ condominium at the time, authorities said. Scutellaro returned from Iraq last November after serving 12 months as a helicopter pilot, according to Lt. Darin Overstreet with the National Guard.

“This is all we can release at this time,” Breckenridge police public information officer Crystal Dean said. “We did call in Colorado State Patrol last night to help with the accident investigation. This is what they were experts in. We won’t know anything more until tomorrow (Monday).”

Residents who were nearby could not speculate on what caused the accident, but did provide some details. According to a nearby resident Chip Payton, who lives in the Edelweiss condos on Main Street, the trolley was turning from Main Street onto Watson Street toward the Transportation Center when the accident occurred.

“A witness who saw it was sitting on the step with his head between his legs,” Payton said, who was attending a building barbecue that evening. “I said I was going to bring him a glass of water. … He slammed the glass of water … and he told me, what I just saw changed my life.”

Joyce Delatorre, assistant manager of the Blue River Bistro, saw Scutellaro earlier in the evening. Scutellaro arrived at the restaurant around 7:15 p.m. and ate a full dinner with one glass of wine. Delatorre was unsure of when the victim left the restaurant.

Calls to the Colorado State Patrol were not returned on Sunday.
