Breckenridge lends hand to rider with brain injury

Summit Daily News

BRECKENRIDGE – Breckenridge Ski Resort announced Friday that it will donate $4,500 to Kevin Pearce, a champion snowboarder and Olympic hopeful from Vermont who is recovering from a traumatic brain injury.

The resort raised the funds at the annual Matt Wyffels Rail Jam on Saturday, April 10. Wyffels, a former competitive snowboarder, was paralyzed eight years ago. Since his paralysis, he has learned to walk and snowboard again, despite his doctors’ prognosis that he never would. Wyffels and Breckenridge Ski Resort donated 100% of the registration fees, plus cover and drink specials raised from the after-party following the rail jam.

“I am just happy to be a part of this,” Wyffels said, after being thanked for his effort toward Pearce’s recovery. “I don’t think there is much reason to thank me.”
