Breck’s Snow White open
Vail CO, Colorado
|SILVERTHORNE- The USDA Forest Service authorized the opening of the Snow White area at Breckenridge Ski Resort for the 2007 winter season.
Snow White provides 150 acres of extreme terrain in a high alpine environment, accessed by a short hike above Breckenridge’s Imperial Express Superchair. Located adjacent to the Lake Chutes, Snow White is within the permit boundary of the ski area as determined by the White River National Forest.
The opening of this terrain implements management direction authorized in the White River National Forest’s Forest Plan. The 2002 Forest Plan revision process included comprehensive public involvement and discussion of ski area boundaries as well as appropriate management direction within ski areas. The effects of opening terrain within existing ski area permit boundaries were detailed in the 2002 Forest Plan environmental analysis.
Breckenridge is currently updating its Master Development Plan – a conceptual plan designed by the Forest Service and the ski area to outline current and future operations. One goal of Breckenridge’s Master Development Plan includes increasing hike-to expert terrain accessible from the Imperial Express Superchair. No new lifts, buildings or facilities are planned in the future at Snow White.
