Bridge work under way east of Vail
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – The Colorado Department of Transportation is beginning a bridge repair project over Black Gore Creek on Interstate 70 on west Vail Pass. The work, which is scheduled to be done by Dec. 21, was contracted to Kiewit Western Company for about $300,000.
The work involves the replacement of steel bolts at the structure’s east end, where the horizontal steel girders are anchored to the bridge’s concrete abutment. New high-strength steel expansion anchors will be installed. Work will also include repair of an expansion joint at the east end.
Eastbound I-70 at mile marker 182.5 is reduced to one lane while crews place concrete barrier along the shoulder to stabilize the east end in preparation for the work. This outside lane closure will be in place into next week as the work gets under way.
