Briefs: Abduction-prevention seminar Saturday

EAGLE ” A workshop on preventing child abductions, sponsored by the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, will be held Saturday at James Lee’s Karate School in Eagle from 10 a.m. to noon.
Parents are encouraged to attend the event with their children. “We want to let parents know how law enforcement handles and investigates an abduction attempt, as well as demonstrate child safety techniques,” Sgt. Greg Daly said.

VAIL ” Crews have begun to seal cracks on residential streets in Vail. Work has begun in Intermountain and will continue through June. The project will cost $61,950. Streets schedule for crack sealing include:
Intermountain: Bellflower Drive, Kinnickinnick Road, Kinnickinnick Court, Basingdale Boulevard, Snowberry Drive, Larkspur Court and Larkspur Lane.
Matterhorn: West Gore Creek Drive, Alpine Drive, Shasta Place, Alta Court, Sierra Trail, Matterhorn Circle and Geneva Drive.
Glen Lyon: Westhaven Drive, Westhaven Circle and Greenhill Court.
West Vail North (Chamonix): Cortina Lane, Davos Trail, Arosa Drive, Garmish Drive, Chamonix Road, Chamonix Lane, Circle Drive, Meadow Ridge and Buffehr Creek Road.

EAGLE COUNTY ” Brian Lloyd has been selected head ranger for the Eagle/Holy Cross district of the White River National Forest.
Lloyd, who takes the post officially on June 25, has been filling in in the position for the past few months.
Lloyd was the White River forest’s abandoned mined land coordinator from 2003 to 2005. For the last two years, Lloyd worked for the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire, where he was a deputy district ranger.
“My time here as the acting ranger has been great, and I look forward to continuing the relationships I have developed over the past few months,” Lloyd said.
Lloyd replaces former district ranger Cal Wettstein, who transferred to forest headquarters in Glenwood Springs to be the planning and resources staff officer.
