Briefs: Drunk driving crackdown Saturday
EAGLE COUNTY Area cops say they will crackdown on drunk driving on St. Patricks Day Saturday. The Gore Range DUI Task Force, comprised of state of local law enforcement agencies, will increase patrols in eastern Eagle County during the holiday, said Avon Police Chief Brian Kozak, coordinator of the squad. During 2005 nearly 13,000 people were killed in highway crashes involving an impaired driver with an illegal blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher, Kozak said. We want to assure that our citizens have a safe celebration. Therefore, if we catch you driving impaired, we will arrest you. No exceptions. No excuses. Avon residents can call the Tipsy Taxi 470-0722 for a ride home.
VAIL There was no danger to human or fish while a small amount of sewage spilled into the Eagle River at Dowd Junction between March 5 and March 8, the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District said. The river was cleaned up, and a downstream inspection revealed no evidence aquatic life was harmed, the district said. The health risk is minimal for anyone who was in physical contact with the affected stretch of the river during the course of the overflow, said Dr. Drew Werner, health officer for the Eagle Board of County Commissioners. The spill, which was discovered during routine maintenance, was less than 0.3 percent of the rivers flow, the district said.
