Briefs: Prescription discounts offered in Eagle Co.
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” Residents are eligible for an average 20 percent discount on prescription drugs at nine local pharmacies through a new county program.
Prescription-discount cards are available now. For more information on the program, to find participating pharmacies or where to pick up a card, visit http://www.eaglecounty.us/drugprogram or call 970-328-8847.
People without health insurance spend an average of $838 a year on pescription drugs, according to Eagle County.
If all uninsured residents used this program, they could save a total of $2.3 million a year, the county says. The program is sponsored by the National Association of Counties, also known as NACo.
“The NACo prescription discount card will offer significant savings for the uninsured and underinsured residents of our county, and even those fortunate to have prescription coverage may use the card to save money on drugs that are not covered by their health plan,” said Commissioner Peter Runyon. “Residents do not have to be Medicare beneficiaries to be eligible for this program.”
There is no enrollment form for the program, no fees and no restrictions on use, County Commissioner Sara Fisher said.
“Cardholders and their family members may use the card any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance,” she said.
More than 13,000 of the county’s 45,000 residents are not insured, County said Commissioner Arn Menconi.
“Businesses with less than 50 employees are stressed to provide adequate health care and this program will help,” Menconi said.
