Baskets will be assembled at Avon Elementary School and United Methodist Church in Eagle. Last year, 400 families received meals.
Volunteers are asked to bring boxes to this event.

Last year over $43,000 was raised, with 90 percent of this money going directly to the Salvation Army’s programs. Volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., at the City Markets in Vail, Avon and Eagle; Safeway in Vail; Wal-Mart in Avon; Edwards Village Market; and Columbine Market in Gypsum.

VAIL ” Dispatchers at the Vail Public Safety Communications Center, which handles 911 calls in the valley, have a new list of questions aimed at improving emergency response.
The scripted questions will help dispatchers get more useful information to give to police, firefighters and paramedics, said Joe Ribeiro, director of the communications center.
“Through use of the scripted questions, the dispatchers will be more resourceful when questioning the caller,” Ribeiro said. “This will then provide instructions for callers while emergency responders are en route to a call. Overall, the system will make an already great call center even better.”
Dispatchers field an average of 600 phone calls per day, ranging from noise complaints to medical emergencies.
