Briefs: Vail Mountain cleanup June 20

VAIL ” Vail Mountain is holding its yearly cleanup on June 20.
Volunteers should meet at the base of the gondola at 8:45 a.m. Participants will get free food at a barbecue lunch plus a voucher for one free day of skiing at Vail next year.
Vail Mountain will provide trash bags, a limited supply of gloves and assign areas to be cleaned.
Volunteers should bring work gloves, water, sun block, hat, snacks, hiking shoes and clothing for inclement weather.
The lunch will be at 1 p.m. at Eagle’s Nest.

EAGLE ” The 18th annual Run for the Future, a part of the annual Flight Days festival, takes place June 24 and is a fundraiser for youth programs supported by the Western Eagle Valley Rotary Club.
Among the programs supported are scholarships for graduating downvalley seniors.
This year’s Run for the Future starts in downtown Eagle, loops through Eagle Ranch and ends at Fourth and Broadway. Participants can run either the 5K or 10K course.
There is also a 1K Fun Run for smaller kids and others who prefer a short course.
The 5K run and 5K walk start at 7:30 a.m.; the 10K run starts at 8:15 a.m.; and the 1K Fun Run is at 9:15 a.m.
Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at Eagle Valley Dental, and is $25 on race day. Pre-registration, which is $20, is at Alpine Bank in Eagle and Gypsum, and at Maximum Fitness in Eagle-Vail.
Mail-in registration forms are also available at the Avon Recreation Center and at Keller Williams Mountain Properties in Vail, Edwards and Eagle.
“This is a hometown race,” notes Barb Hogoboom, president of the Western Eagle Valley Rotary. “We are just trying to get the locals out there.”
