Bring the break dance
The spotlight will shine on a dynamic display of local student talent at the Battle Mountain High School Saturday at 6 p.m. as Vail Performing Arts Academy and The Friends of Dance join forces to present Spring Student Showcase 2007.
The two local non-profit organizations have collaborated once again to stage student performances of hip-hop, break dancing, jazz, tap, ballet, musical theatre and drama. The musical theater performances include highlights from “Footloose,” “High School Musical” and “Mary Poppins.” The dance performances range from an all boys break dancing section called “The Project,” to classical ballet, lyrical, Latin and innovative tap styles. This mixed repertoire will not be seen at the end of year recitals and are not to be missed.
Friends of the Dance is responsible for the winter holiday concert and “The Nutcracker.” F.O.D. provides financial help to Eagle county students, teachers and The Vail Youth Ballet Company. They provide master classes and performance opportunities for local dancers.
For the past 11 years Vail Performing Arts Academy has provided quality performing arts education and performance opportunities for local students ages 8- 18. VPAA offers year-round programs, including the fall musical review – “You Can’t Stop The Beat,” winter holiday concert, spring student showcase and summer musical, among others.
