Buddhist retreat set for Saturday, Sunday in Edwards
Bodhimarga and the local Edwards Buddhist Sangha are sponsoring a Buddhist retreat with Venerable Tenzin Priyardarshi on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition, a free informal gathering will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at a private home in Lake Creek in Edwards. Participants at tonights gathering can discuss their meditation practices with Ven. Tenzin and view images of his recent pilgrimage to India. Generally on Friday nigths I do a public talk but this particular Friday night well share our experiences, Tenzin said. A group of people from Edwards went on a pilgrimage to India. There will also be a Q&A for people interested in Buddhism or contemplative practices.Saturday and Sundays retreat will be held in a private Lake Creek home. The cost is $150 per person or $250 per couple and includes lunch and refreshments both days. This is the eighth retreat Tenzin has led in the area, he said. The reason he keeps returning is simple: People ask for it.I think people are generally interested in having some spiritual dimensions in their life. And my role as a monk is to help facilitate that as much as possible, Tenzin said. Venerable Tenzin is the president of Prajnopaya Foundation (www.prajnopaya.org). He trained in India and Nepal in Indo-Tibetan and Japanese Buddhism and was ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. His undergraduate work was in philosophy and physics and he completed his graduate studies in comparative religion at Harvard University in 2003. Since 2002, he has served as a visiting scholar and Buddhist chaplain at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Bodhimarga is a non-profit organization that has weekly meditation and dharma groups in many locations. Visit http://www.bodhimarga.org for more information or to make donations.
