Buddhist retreat set for Saturday, Sunday

Venerable Tenzin Priyadarshi will lead a weekend retreat on “Meditative Serenity (Shamata)” on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Miller Ranch Community Center in Edwards.

In this retreat, Priyadarshi continues with teachings based on the Lamrim. Shamatha meditation helps to protect the mind from disturbing emotions and thinking processes. It brings the mind to a balanced state of alertness, clarity and control, which can lead to inner peace and harmony. Shamatha meditation cuts through the confusion of ordinary appearances and perceptions and gives rise to deeper levels of understanding and wisdom. Everyone is welcome to study and practice Shamata meditation, no matter their background or experience.

Priyadarshi is the founder and director of the Dalai Lama Center for Ethics and Transformative Values at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a non-partisan collaborative think tank focused on interdisciplinary research and programs related to the development of human and global ethics. He also serves as the Buddhist Chaplain to the Institute. Locally, Priyadarshi is the director of Bodhimarga, a Buddhist study and meditation group. Bodhimarga has weekly teachings and monthly retreats at various locations throughout Colorado.
