VAIL — The Vail Public Library’s annual Scarecrow Building Day is scheduled for Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The event provides an opportunity for some teamwork and creativity. Put together a team and build a scarecrow to decorate the Vail Public Library. This program is free and open to the public.

The library will provide frames and some art supplies. Eagle Valley Community Rummage Sale and Vail Valley Cares Thrifty Store will provide the clothes. The scarecrows are always a bit more fun when participants bring some of their own accessories to personalize them. Hats, hair, scarves, glasses, even skis or bikes help make your team’s scarecrow stand out. Over the years, the library has been fortunate to have quite a few really unique models, according to event organizers. There isn’t a set theme, but participants can make one up that fits their dreams of a perfect scarecrow. Teens may work independently with librarian permission, but anyone younger than 13 will need a responsible adult on their team.

Scarecrows will be judged by the town of Vail Art in Public Places coordinator, Molly Eppard.

Small parts, glue guns and staple guns will be used. This creative day is not appropriate for children younger than 4.
