Burns planned in Vail-area

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL –The U.S. Forest Service will set controlled burns in West Vail this week.

Later this spring, the Bureau of Land Management will burn 500 acres of sagebrush and pinon and juniper trees about 10 miles east of State Bridge. The fire will burn in Eagle and Grand Counties near Dry Gulch Spring off the Trough Road.

One of the goals of the State Bridge-area burn is to improve wildlife habitat and stimulate new, more nutritious plant growth in the burned areas. The fires should leave a patchwork of burned and unburned areas, giving wildlife better forage and also provide hiding cover.
