The Vail Police Department is stepping up its presence in the Buffehr Creek neighborhood to help control traffic and safety violations. Folks in that neighborhood asked police to fly the flag a little higher, and they’re going to. The posted speed limit along Buffehr Creek Road is from 15 to 25 miles per hour, depending on the location.For more information, contact Vail Officer Jim Applegate at 479-2101, ext. 4224.Rollin’ those rubber ducksThe Vail-Eagle Valley Rotary presents Vail’s annual Rubber Duck Race. Thousands of yellow rubber ducks celebrate Labor Day Weekend racing down Gore Creek in the heart of Vail. Supporting the event as title sponsors are Vail Resorts and Vail Resorts Development Company.Ducks are $5 each to adopt. It’s a fund-raiser for local kids scholarships and other local community activities. You get to be part of a 12,000 duck field.Among the seriosly cool prizes are his and her’s Vespa’s (motorized scooters), all kinds of trips, a Las Vegas getaway for two including airfare, golf trip for two to Lake Tahoe, a week on the beach in Southern California-Newport Beach including airfare for four, and an all mountainVail Resorts Ski Pass, plus a bunch of other prizes. They also have music, food, children activities, the Vail Daily’s Velcro Wall, and arcade games.Activities start at noon Sunday. As it turns out, there are about 50 kids associated with the team, and their budget is $300. They really need the money.The benefit race is at 6 p.m. Sept. 9, following the high school girls and boys race. The race start/finish will be at the Battle Mountain baseball field and will head out around the school and onto the par 3 golf course. It’s $15 per person to run, and $20 if you flake out and don’t run. Think of it as a donation to all of the hard working runners, and how much better behaved they are when they’re exhausted. You may register in advance at the race. Prices in many different age groups will be awarded.
