July 28, 2010
EDWARDS – A workshop on creative calligraphy is set for Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alpine Arts Center in Edwards. Vail Valley artist Wendy Satsky will teach the course, which will guide participants to create a series of beautiful greeting card designs that demonstrate each student’s unique artistic process.
“In this workshop, students will experiment with different tools and techniques for calligraphy, the art of beautiful handwriting,” Satsky said. “Using pens, shells, sticks, Chinese brushes, and objects from nature along with basic principles of artistic design, they will create paintings that use calligraphy as an integral element of content, composition and craftsmanship.”
Satsky moved to Minturn with her family from New Jersey in 1978. She’s a graduate of Kean University and Colorado State University and has studied at the New York School of Visual Arts and Naropa University in Boulder. Since retiring after a 25-year teaching career with Eagle County School District, Satsky assists the Vail Valley Medical Center’s arts and healing program and serves as art director for People House, a center for personal and spiritual growth in Denver. Her artwork reflects a love of nature, words and color as “calligraphics,” a unique blend of her calligraphy and painting.
The cost for the course is $150 plus a $15 materials fee.
Register for the course by Friday online at http://www.alpineartscenter.org or by contacting Lauren at 970-926-2732.
