Calling all bands
The Youth Battle of the Bands is looking for bands to do battle.Next week’s events has a few open slots for performers between the ages 11 and 20 to strut their musical stuff.The Youth Battle of the Bands is set for 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Wolcott Yacht Club. Oliver Farley is putting it together and said they still have room for a few more bands.”This is all about giving kids a chance to get together and have some fun, and getting them to do something healthy,” said Farley.
Bands can perform any kind of music and the winner will get to perform live on one of NRC Broadcasting’s regional stations. The station they play for will depend on the kind of music they play. For example, a country band would play on KSKE; a rock band might play on KTUN The Eagle or Jack FM.The bands also win cash prizes, donated by the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office. The winner gets $400, second place is $250 and third place is $100.Giveaways will be available for just showing up. Prizes include horseback rides, massages, flyfishing lessons, nutritional information training, kayak lessons, cooking classes, taking a class of their choice at Colorado Mountain College, as well as other prizes.”The object is to promote a substance-free evening, play music, listen to music and dance,” said Farley. “It’s about promoting things that are healthy and fun.”
During the evening, kids will fill out surveys outlining what kinds of other activities they’d like see. When the results are tabulated, Farley will present the findings to the Eagle County commissioners.
