BEAVER CREEK — Tis the season to rhyme and write poetry for the annual Beaver Creek poetry contest.

Beaver Creek Resort Co., the Beaver Creek Children’s Theatre Company and Blue Creek Productions are encouraging local young poets to write a poem and enter it.

This year’s theme asks, “What would you wish to make the world a better place?” The winner will read his or her poem at the Beaver Creek Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m. on Nov. 28. The winner gets a $100 savings bond.

‘CREATIVITY AND INSIGHT’

“It is such a joy to read the entries to this contest. They are so special, so generous in thought,” Brian Hall, director of Beaver Creek Children’s Theatre and contest coordinator. “The creativity and insight of children warms my heart every time. It’s a magical moment to see the winning child read their poem in front of 2000 people gathered at Beaver Creek during the Tree Lighting Ceremony. The crowd goes wild and the child is just beaming.”

The poetry contest is open to children ages 5 to 12.

The deadline is 5 p.m. Monday. To receive the grand prize, entrants must be able to attend the Beaver Creek Tree Lighting on Nov. 28.

Entry forms are available at http://www.beavercreekkids.com.

All entries must include the poet’s full name and age, parents’ name and day and evening phone numbers.

Fax entries to Blue Creek Productions at 970-692-2423 or email to poetrycontest@bluecreek.com.
