Candles will light Avon restaurant Saturday night
AVON, Colorado Restaurant Avondale in Avon, Colorado will join the initiative to go dark for one hour Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. The restaurant will be glowing with candlelight, said Jelena Musa, general manager. We want to show the valley and the world that we support this symbolic step towards affecting climate change. Brian Harker, bar manager, will be featuring his Starry Night cocktail to toast the event.World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is asking individuals, businesses, governments and organizations around the world to turn off their lights for one hour called Earth Hour to make a global statement of concern about climate change and to demonstrate commitment to finding solutions. This symbol sends a strong message to our political leaders that the people of this country want them to take meaningful action on climate change. During Earth Hour in 2008, the largest climate event in history, millions of people around the world united by turning off their lights for one hour to demand action on the climate crisis. Cities in more than 60 countries have committed to this years Earth Hour. By turning out the lights for one hour local time, life in space will see a giant wave of darkness.What does Earth Hour hope to accomplish? After the lights go out around the world, WWF hopes that conversations about climate change will continue and that people will take initiative to make small changes in their lives to be more carbon efficient.
