Capitol summit today might lead to Colorado illegal-immigration plan

A group of conservative lawmakers is hosting a summit on illegal immigration today in preparation for introducing an Arizona-style immigration bill in the legislature in January.

It is doubtful such a bill would have any success, given that Democrats control the Senate and Gov.-elect John Hickenlooper has said on the campaign trail that he opposes the legislation.

The Republican Study Committee’s summit, on the second floor of the state Capitol, is aimed at discussing different approaches to dealing with illegal immigration.

The summit begins at 9 a.m. and is open to the public. Speakers will include law-enforcement officers and elected officials.
