Car inspection ends oddly in Avon

AVON, Colorado ” The-Avon police department was like a blackhole for a string of young Red Cliff, Colorado men trying to accomplish a simple task Friday.

First, a 20 year-old man showed up at the station to get the VIN on his Subaru verified. The officer behind the desk, who also happens to be a drug recognition expert, noticed right away how blatantly stoned the man appeared. She took him in the back and asked if he was high, which he admitted with no problem because he’s got a doctor’s slip that says he can use medical marijuana.

What he didn’t know was that he could only use it in his home. Police arrested him for DUI.

The friend he was with couldn’t take him home, either, because police said he was stoned, too.

That left the two friends looking for somebody who could pick them up. They chose a fellow Red Cliff resident, who showed up shortly after to get his friends and bring them home. The problem was that the 22-year-old didn’t have a valid license, so police arrested him.

Finally, a fourth friend, who was sober and legal to drive, came and got the three men. The mission of the day was accomplished, albeit in a long and painful way, and the 20-year-old ended up getting his VIN verified.
