Cardiac testing to be offered in Vail Valley

VAIL VALLEY, Colorado –The Avon Recreation Center will host free blood screenings from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and on May 21. Individual appointments will take approximately 20 minutes and is on a first-come-first-served basis. Drinking eight to 10 glasses of water the day before and fasting 10 to 12 hours prior to the screening will provide more accurate results.

Cardiovascular disease is caused by diabetes, smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, among other risk factors. The Vail Valley Medical Center received a grant to conduct free screens of uninsured and underinsured Eagle County resident for cholesterol, blood sugars, blood pressure, and body mass index to assess for cardiovascular risk. Test results include total cholesterol, breakdown of HDL, LDL, sugar levels, triglycerides, height and weight, and blood pressure. Results are immediate.
