Cardiovascular screening next week in Avon

AVON, Colorado ” An Eagle County Public Health study conducted in 2005 revealed that despite being noted as a “healthy” county, the No. 1 cause of death among Eagle County residents was cardiovascular disease.–

To help reduce cardiovascular disease in the community, the Avon Recreation Center, in partnership with the Vail Valley Medical Center, will be hosting free cardiovascular screenings all next week.

Screenings are free and take approximately 20 minutes. Fasting is not required, but will ensure a more accurate reading for blood sugars and cholesterol. Screenings will be held on the following dates:

Monday, November 10 – 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Friday, November 14 – 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

In addition to receiving a free screening, the Vail Valley Medical Center will have staff available to help educate participants about the results and helpful tools to modify risk factors, if applicable.

Cardiovascular disease is caused by risk factors such as diabetes, smoking, overweight/obesity, high blood pressure, and high blood cholesterol. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, life expectancy could be increased by seven years if all forms of cardiovascular disease were eliminated.
