Carvel Johnson, 1939-2009

Carvel Johnson, age 72, died at Bethel Nursing Home in South Dakota on Saturday.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1939, near Wentworth, S.D., to Roy and Lillie (Halverson) Johnson. He married Kay Lampertson at Sioux Falls, S.D. on June 11, 1960.

He grew up on a farm near Rutland, S.D., graduating from Rutland High School in 1951 and Augustana College in 1955. He served as a lieutenant in the the US Navy from 1955 to 1958.



He then was an admission counsellor at Augustana before returning to farm in 1960. In 1963 he served as Lake County director of ASCS where he retired in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Kay, of Madison, S.D.; son Lars (Lynn), of Eagle; daughters Kristi (Mike) Wiese, of Aberdeen, S.D, Sara (Pat) Tomscha of Sioux City, Iowa, and Wendy (Todd) Koster, of Missoula, Mont.; 15 grandchildren; brother Roger (Judy), of Wentworth, S.D.; and sisters Gert (Bob) King, of Arlington, S.D. and Karen (Floyd) Dimick, of Platte, S.D.
