CDOT to build truck parking space at Dotsero
EAGLE ” While Eagle County is closing its fairground parking lot to truck parking, the Colorado Department of Transportation is creating a new truck parking area at Dotsero.
The county, intending to develop a park on what is now a gravel parking lot, has officially posted a “closed to trucks” sign at the entrance. However, at a work session last week, the county commissioners indicated that enforcement of the truck ban won’t start until work begins on the park, which is now in a very preliminary planning stage. The county is in the process of surveying the land to better definite property boundaries.
The change in use of the park is prompting a search for a new site for recycling bins.
Meanwhile, CDOT, also reacting to the changes at the fairgrounds lot, is advertising for bids for creating a truck parking space at Dotsero.
Peter Kozinski, I-70 mountain corridor manager for CDOT, said the effort to create truck parking stems from frequent Vail Pass closures last year that backed up truck traffic in the valley.
