Celebrate all things green at Krueger Family Shamrock Shuffle on March 14
VAIL — The Vail Recreation District will host the fourth annual Krueger Family Shamrock Shuffle 10K, 5K and kid’s 1K fun run, in celebration of all things green on St. Patrick’s Day weekend at the Vail Nordic Center. The race, which will include a snowshoe and Yaktrax category, will take place at 4 p.m. on March 14 and will be followed by a post-race gathering that will include a free Blood Mary and Irish Coffee Bar provided by Avon Liquor, free seasonal ale from Crazy Mountain Brewery and a free participant dinner provided by Grill on the Gore in the Vail Nordic Center.
Win Great Prizes
Costs for the race are $18 to preregister or $28 day-of; $15 for students who are preregistered or $25 on race day; and free for the kid’s 1K fun run. Racers can register or pick up their bib from 4 to 6 p.m. March 13 at the Icebreaker store, located in Solaris Plaza in Vail Village. The first 125 registrants will be entered to win an Icebreaker gift package at the after party following the race. Snowshoe rentals will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Vail Nordic Center. Prizes will be given out to the top three women and men in the 10k snowshoe and Yaktrax categories and include gift certificates to the Vail Chophouse, Blue Moose Pizza and more. Costumes are encouraged and prizes will be awarded to the best St. Patrick’s Day-themed outfits. A raffle drawing will also take place for all participants at the after party with an opportunity to win snowshoes from Tubbs and Atlas Snowshoes, Yaktrax and prizes from Wigwam, Outdoor Technology and more.
The race is a great opportunity to start getting prepped for the VRD’s summer La Sportiva Vail Mountain Trail Running Race Series, said VRD Sports Coordinator Kip Tingle.
“We have a lot of folks out there who run in our summer trail series and are looking for winter events,” said Tingle. “The Krueger Family Shamrock Shuffle is a great way to get pumped for the trail running series and ‘shuffle’ around the Vail Nordic Center. Whether you’re Irish or not, it will be a great afternoon event.”
‘Fun for the Entire Family’
According to Pavan Krueger, with Krueger Architecture & Design, she and her family are looking forward to sponsoring the event again and bring their 17 plus family members out running and celebrating afterward. “We enjoy the tough competition paired with a fun, family-oriented event that all ages can participate in,” said Krueger. “In past years, some of the younger family members did the kids run, but they’ve graduated to the 5K now. Watching our kids grow into the friendly competition has been fun for the entire family, especially as the youngsters have begun outrunning their parents. It’s also been gratifying to watch the event itself grow — last year was the largest turnout yet. We hope for a bigger race this year. Anyone who’s attended can vouch that the party is great and the odds of winning a prize are fantastic.”
