VAIL, Colorado –Holidays in Vail, the annual celebration presented by the town of Vail, concludes on New Year’s Eve with a fireworks show and other family-friendly activities.

The fun begins at approximately 6:15 p.m. with Vail’s traditional New Year’s Eve torchlight ski down and fireworks show at Golden Peak. The event is free and open to the public. The best place to view the event is from the Golden Peak base area; however, the event can be viewed from many locations throughout Vail Village.

“The Vail Snowsports School presents quite a spectacular show each New Year’s Eve,” said Laurie Asmussen of Eagle Valley Events, Inc., organizer of Holidays in Vail. “The town of Vail and Vail Resorts team up to present a beautiful torchlight display and the fireworks show is an annual tradition. It’s the perfect way to start out your New Year’s Eve celebration, whether you’re headed out to one of Vail’s restaurants or clubs for the evening or planning an evening at your hotel, condominium or home.”

Following the fireworks, the New Year’s Eve celebration continues with the First Night Family Festival, which takes place in the Arrabelle at Vail Square in Lionshead Mall. The event runs from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and is free and open to people of all ages.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the First Night event back to Arrabelle at Vail Square again this year,” Asmussen said. “The event was created to offer a family-friendly atmosphere for our guests looking to spend time celebrating New Year’s Eve with children of all ages.”

Attendees can expect disco ice skating and music, children’s arts and crafts, plus entertainment by the Yale Alley Cats, a choral group that will perform several times throughout the evening. The event concludes with a countdown and live showing of the ball drop from Times Square in New York City at 10 p.m. For the latest schedule and additional information, visit http://www.vailgov.com or call the Holidays in Vail office at 970-477-3699.

In addition, Adventure Ridge at Eagle’s Nest on Vail Mountain will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve with snowmobiling (kids only), tubing, ski biking, bungee trampoline and snowshoeing. Call 970-SKI-VAIL (754-8245) for more information.

Safety Measures for New Year’s Eve

A townwide curfew and a Special Event District boundary for Vail Village will again be in place from 10:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 5 a.m. the next day. The public safety measures were first implemented for the July 4th holiday in 2001 to help reduce crowding and underage drinking in Vail Village. Since then, the twice-a-year measures have helped to build upon Vail’s reputation as not only a fun place to be, but also a safe place to be on those holidays.
