Celebrating ‘the joy of family’ in Vail
July 7, 2010
VAIL, Colorado – The Squash Blossom is hosting a trunk show Thursday with jewelry by Monica Rich Kosann. Kosann is a well-known museum and fine art gallery photographer specializing in black-and-white portraiture. She studied photography at some of the most prestigious institutions abroad and in the U.S. and has been featured in many other renowned publications.
Specializing in family portrait photography, Kosann believes there is no gift more precious than a memory.
“My photographs are black and white, which gives them a true fine art, timeless quality,” she said. “When creatively displayed, they become a family’s art form.Often, I suggest incorporating some vintage family photographs to mix with mine for a true historical perspective. It is a wonderful way to give context to these captured moments, to integrate the past with the present as a constant reminder of the joy of family.”
Seeking inspiration to house these memorable photographs, Kosann spent years scouring flea markets and antique shops for vintage collectables. The objets d’art of the 1920s and ’30s became the vision for her creations.
“Monica’s jewelry is a wonderful combination of the traditional locket, modern innovation and beautiful design,” said Amy Logan, manager of The Squash Blossom. “Most pieces are designed as lovely jewelry with the places for pictures hidden inside, like a secret close to your heart. Every piece is created to be worn and has the elegance and timelessness that it can become an heirloom itself.”
Kosann will be a The Squash Blossom Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. Call 970-476-3129 to learn more.
