Cell phone bill up for vote at Colorado Capitol
DENVER, Colorado ” A bill requiring drivers to use handsfree devices while talking on cell phones is up for another vote at the Colorado Capitol.
The Senate Finance Committee has scheduled a hearing for Thursday. The panel will review how much the state would have to spend to enforce the proposed law and how much violators would end up paying.
Drivers under 18, as well as bus and taxi drivers, wouldn’t be able to talk or text on cell phones at all under the bill.
Another committee backed it earlier this week. The mother of a 9-year-old Fort Collins girl hit by a driver suspected of talking on her cell phone urged lawmakers to pass it.
Verizon Wireless and the State Patrol support the bill. It has already passed the House.
