Charles W. (Chuck) Schmid, 1942-2009
Chuck Schmid died peacefully at his home in Arrowhead Thursday after a long battle with a brain tumor. He was treated in part at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center in Edwards. Born in Omaha, Neb., Chuck and his wife of 46 years, Judy, spent the majority of their adult lives living in many different cities throughout the United States as Chuck’s career progressed. Chuck was a senior executive for many of the top consumer products companies in the U.S., including Procter & Gamble, Wilson Sporting Goods, Seven-Up, Miller Brewing and Andersen Windows. He finished his career as chairman and owner of TruStile Doors, LLC, which he owned and ran with his son, Scott.Chuck, Judy and their children, Scott and Lisa, began visiting the Vail Valley in the early 1970s. Given the family’s vagabond existence, the valley was soon adopted as the place that felt most like home. Chuck and Judy first bought property in Beaver Creek in 1993 and later in Arrowhead. Chuck and Judy settled permanently in Arrowhead in 2000. Before then, their children, Scott and Lisa, both began to call Denver home in 1997, so the whole family was together in Colorado.Chuck and Judy supported many organizations in the Vail Valley especially the St. Clare of Assisi parish school.Chuck is survived by his wife, Judy, his son and daughter, Scott and Lisa, and grandchildren Katie, Peter, Patrick, Ellie and Heidi. There will be a memorial mass for Chuck at the Chapel at Beaver Creek at noon on Oct. 2. Chuck will always be in the hearts of the family that he loved. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shaw Regional Cancer Center at 322 Beard Creek Road, Edwards, CO 81632 or at http://www.shawcancercenter.com.
