Chemical prompts Boulder homeless shelter evacuation
BOULDER, Colorado – Police in Boulder say they don’t expect any criminal charges stemming from an evacuation of the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless.
Between 75 and 100 homeless people were moved from the shelter Thursday night after a man told authorities he had hazardous materials stored in his locker there. Police removed a suitcase with the potentially toxic chemical.
Police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley says police weren’t disclosing what materials the man had. She says there is no public safety risk as long as the materials are handled appropriately. Huntley says the chemical was in sealed containers and that no one was exposed.
